Internet sites about the report topic
http://wonderclub.com/Atlas/arctic.htm A similar site to World Atlas. This site has wildlife links and games to
play. It also links to pin-up style
posters of celebrities like Britney Spears and Pamela Anderson. Teachers, this
site will allow the student to play around without getting much work done. Avoid it during a work session; enjoy it when
students are just practicing internet skills.
http://www.arctic.noaa.gov/faq.html General information about the
Arctic
and what
is to be studied about it. Is a FAQ
page, with links to other topics.
The
sites feature article for August summarizes a report on impact of climate
change: also refers readers to the
addresses below. If report is no longer
the main story on the home page, search for it in the site arachive. Re: International Assessment Enumerates
Climate Change Impacts Across the
Arctic
. Arctic Research Consortium of the United States ARCUS) The website says that “This article by Robert W. Corell, Pål Prestrud, and Gunter Weller was
featured in the Winter 2004/2005 issue of Witness the Arctic, posted on the ARCUS Web site. A direct link to download the
entire newsletter in PDF format is available at the end of this article.”
http://www.groundtruthinvestigations.com/documents/climatechange.html Another report by Corell, possibly a repeat
of the one listed by Alaska Science Outreach. This one has diagrams and pictures and reads like a highly informative
speech. Subject matter: Climate change impact study. You could
structure your paper around this one.
www.arctic-council.org/files/infopage/43/ACIA_SAOs.pdf A pdf PowerPoint presentation to go with the
speech aon Climate change. Be sure to say how it relates to the websites
listed above dealing with Corell and climate change impact.
http://www.arctic-council.org/en/main/infopage/15/ About the meeting and the society for which
the above report was written. Talks
about
Iceland
, since
that is where the society met. Talks
about other issues, too. This is 15
pages long. Cut the /15/ off the address
if you have trouble getting to it with this address.
http://www.thearctic.is/ a link from the home page http://www.svs.is/english for Stephansson

articles—with pictures—about people, challenges and scientific issues of living
in the Arctic areas. You could find something here to structure your paper
around.
http://uscode.house.gov/download/pls/15C67.txt Outline of government codes concerning the
Arctic
. This
site will take much digging in related sites to understand what it means and
really says. If
you have tendencies towards being a lawyer or a politician, this could be the
basis of report on the law and
Arctic
concerns.
http://www.arcticcircle.uconn.edu/HistoryCulture/wilderness.html An essay about the Alaskan(?)
wilderness, its history and its importance today. Probably a paper written for a college class—maybe
a class lecture(?) or professor’s talk(?). Explore the site and see if you can figure out why it was written. This essay
provides another theme for a paper.
http://www.goals.com/thayer/gota/history/historybody.htm from the
Alaskan
Center
, this is
an essay on the polar Indians and Eskimos concerning their history and
hunting. This site is part of
www.goals.com. GOALS describes itself as
a learning center for adventurers, teachers and students. It has adventure articles written by its
members about expeditions that they have taken: sailing the oceans, deep-sea
diving, whatever. Look for archeology
digs. A good site to explore (?) If you go to goals.com, look for the essay
Gates of the Arctic Caribou Trek. Either a new theme or combines well with essay on Alaskan
wilderness above and topics found at The Arctic Is, above.
http://www.solcomhouse.com/arctic.htm An encyclopedia style
article/research paper(?) on history, species, human population and climate
change of the Arctic regions. Another
teacher site, with lots of other essays to link to. Another source of
themes, with structuring of relationships between themes.
http://arcticcircle.uconn.edu/intro.html This site
is part of
Arctic Circle
— http://www.arcticcircle.uconn.edu Link to this address by removing parts of other link. Nice pictures. Background information. On the polar
regions. Introduction
to a book(?) Could provide ideas for
themes as well as information.
http://www.arcticcircle.uconn.edu This seems to be a website for a
university class. Intriguing scientific
topics are listed as part of the course. Contains an on-line class, links to other sites, and a discussion forum
with essays from students as well as chatter. Good source of information and ideas.
http://www.nature.ca/ukaliq/021des/100_nmc01_e.cfm a page on the Arctic hare from
the
Canadian
Museum
of
Nature. Go to its parent site http://www.nature.ca/uk for lots more
information using the search engine. Parent site would be good starting point for lots of
topics, especially plants and animals found in the
Arctic
.
[DOC] Madame
Chair,
This is a paper written as a speech
to the same council that met to talk about climate change in the references
above It personalizes the issue in that
it is written by a minister(religious or governmental? Study the site to be sure which) talking
about the impact of policy and nature on his people. Combine with
climate change idea above, or make a social impact theme.

Natives and Scientists

maintained by the Foreign Ministry of Finland. Has a science link and
tons of information about all kinds of topics. One page, http://virtual.finland.fi/Nature_Environment/aurora/splendour.html talks
about auroras, but clicking on the links takes you to movies and slide
show depicting auroras. Beautiful. Another page http://virtual.finland.fi/netcomm/news/showarticle.asp?intNWSAID=25722 has one of the best images of a mirage I have seen.
