So I decided to turn it into a Teachable Moment. There are at least 6 coding error types on this page, and even more actual errors. I haven't counted them, but you can. You can report them on the forum. Or email your count to me. If you are teaching yourself to code in CSS and xHTML, as I did, or if you are age 12-17 and learning to write webpages, take the challenge. Recode the source code and check it against the (mostly) corrected page: www.vforteachers.com/webmasterpage3.htm.

Did you come up with a better design? Send your code in a text file to me so I can share it. Discuss it in the forum. Tell us how many errors you corrected. Every so often I will report on how the Teachable Moment: Correct the Source Code WMP3 is faring in the blog/newsletter Valerie's Memos. Subscribe so you can keep up.

Do you know how to view the source code? Choose View in your browser, go to Source Code to get the .txt file of the xHTML (or other) code for the page. This might be a pop-up file. It can be saved (downloaded). You can use the header to locate the CSS file. Do you know how to find it? If not, just ask. Can you find the source code and css file in the downloaded web page file?

I wondered if drop-shipping was really the easy way to make money. Many affiliate programs allow you to set up storefronts linking to their products that are then sold at the merchant's site using the merchant's shopping cart, not yours. Cookies are used to track a customer's purchases so that you get your commissions. Can you make money this way? Some of my on-line readings say yes, if you manage your site well. There are 4 principles in common with the articles that I have read. I will add a fifth.

    5 Principles of Making Money on the Web

  • Find your niche and develop it.
  • Provide information about your niche: articles, e-books, humor--something uniquely yours.
  • Offer products and ads that fit within your niche.
  • Advertise with newsletters, blogs, flyers, newspaper ads, link swaps, forum signatures, and more.
  • To these point I add: Find another niche and grow.
